Elvin Jones (9 septembre 1927, 18 mai 2004) est un batteur de jazz.
Elvin est le frère du pianiste Hank Jones (1918-) et du trompettiste Thad Jones (1923-1986). Célèbre pour son jeu de batterie et pour son humilité, ce grand musicien du monde du jazz qui prenait chaque concert comme un nouveau défi, côtoie et joue avec les plus grandes pointures comme: Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, Jay Jay Johnson, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins dans le début de sa carrière. Il se distingue ensuite aux côtés du saxophoniste John Coltrane dans les années 1960 et devient son batteur officiel. Il accompagna le Duke Ellington Orchestra pendant trois jours en Europe.
Quelques années avant sa mort, il sera à la tête de son propre groupe, Elvin Jones's Jazz Machine. Les Jazzmen reconnaissent Elvin Jones, comme l'un des plus talentueux batteurs de l'histoire du Jazz. Il influencera de nombreux batteurs, notamment son disciple et ami Christian Vander.
