Billy Bob Thornton est un acteur, réalisateur, producteur, scénariste et musicien américain, né le 4 août 1955 à Hot Springs dans l'Arkansas.

Il commence sa carrière en tant que batteur et chanteur du groupe Tres Hombres. Parallèlement, il tient quelques rôles dans des séries télévisées et est scénariste pour le cinéma avec son ami d'enfance, Tom Epperson.
Le film Un faux mouvement est le premier scénario qu'il vendît. Il alterna ensuite différents rôles secondaires et finit par obtenir des rôles principaux dans des films comme The Barber : l'homme qui n'était pas là ou encore À l'ombre de la haine. Il donne deux fois la réplique à Bruce Willis dans Armageddon et Bandits

Il fut le mari de l'actrice Angelina Jolie de mai 2000 à mai 2003.
