George Bancroft (3 octobre 1800 à Worcester (Massachusetts) – 17 janvier 1891 à Washington DC) était un historien et homme politique américain. Pendant qu'il était secrétaire de la Marine, il fonda l'académie navale américaine à Annapolis en 1845. Son œuvre la plus importante est l'History of the United States, from the Discovery of the American Continent.
