Le Party.San Open Air est un festival de metal extrême dans le land de Thuringe, en Allemagne. Il réunit le black metal, le thrash metal, le death metal ainsi que le grindcore.

Histoire[modifier | modifier le code]

Le festival a lieu pour la première fois en 1996. Initialement prévu en août, il est interdit par le Land de Thuringe et se transforme en une fête privée. Le vrai festival se tient le deuxième week-end de septembre et réunit une dizaine de groupes régionaux, dont Heaven Shall Burn. En 1998, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter est le premier groupe de réputation nationale, puis l'année suivante Amon Amarth de réputation internationale. Entre 1997 et 1999, le festival se tient entre juillet et fin août. En 2000, il se fixe lors du deuxième week-end d'août. D'un millier de spectateurs en 2000, ils sont 15 000 en 2014.

Le Party.San est souvent affecté par des phénomènes météorologiques comme des coups de vent ou des fortes pluies. En 2004, le vent endommage la toiture de la scène. En 2010, les fortes pluies rendent le terrain boueux juste avant le festival qui faillit être annulé. L'aérodrome de Bad Berka ne possède qu'une piste en herbe. Dès l'année suivante, le festival et le camping s'installe sur l'aérodrome d'Obermehler-Schlotheim qui possède une piste en asphalte.

Lutte contre l'extrême droite

Depuis ses débuts, le festival Party.San s'oppose à ce mouvement politique présent dans la scène metal. En 2007, Taake ne peut plus faire de concerts en Allemagne après avoir exhibé une croix gammée. L'année précédente, les membres de Watain font le salut hitlérien et portent des t-shirts du groupe Absurd. Ils seront pourtant invités de nouveau en 2010. En 2012, le groupe suédois Sargeist est déprogrammé parce qu'il refuse de s'expliquer sur son rapport avec ce mouvement politique. Sur son site internet, le festival prévient que le port de symboles nazis ou néo-nazis entraîne l'exclusion immédiate.
