Many publications will award a single "Game of the Year" to a single title that they feel represents the pinnacle of gaming achievement that year, as well as smaller awards (e.g. "Best Strategy Game" or "Best Shooter"). IGN Game of the Year winners[modifier | modifier le code]
The winners of the IGN Game of the Year are chosen by the professional editors at IGN. Results are released about two to three weeks into January so all editors have time to play the most highly esteemed games. IGN is the world's most visited video game web site as of 2008.[3][4]

Spike TV VGAs Game of the Year winners[modifier | modifier le code]
Spike TV's Video Game Awards have been presented yearly since 2004. It markets itself in a similar vein to the Oscars except for video games. Initially awards were determined by popular vote, however since 2007 it has redefined itself to be based purely on the vote of industry professionals across the globe including journalists and developers.[5]
