Xavier Mosquet[modifier | modifier le code]

Xavier Mosquet is a Senior Partner Emeritus of the Boston Consulting Group, and the founder of their Detroit office.

He is an expert of automotive industry et has advised presidents Obama (on the restructuring of General Motors and Chrysler) and Macron (for whom he co-wrote a report on the automotive sector and mobility in France and Europe).

Xavier Michel Henry Mosquet was born on 11th April 1955 in Neuilly-sur-Seine (Hauts de Seine). Since 28th April 2007, he has been married to Maeva Patron, a communications manager, and has four children: Thaïs, Florian, Gaspard and Artus[1]. He spends his time between Detroit and Paris.

• 1975-1978ː Studies in general engineering at the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines in Nancy.

• 1979ː MSc (top of his class) in solid state physics and energy economics from the University of Paris VII. Research into solar energy.

• 1984ː MBA with distinction from INSEAD (the European Institute of Business Administration).

From 1978 to 1980, he was a research engineer in solar energy at the CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment). Then, from 1980 to 1984, he was head of the solar energy department at Elf Aquitaine.

BCG - Boston Consulting Group[modifier | modifier le code]

Xavier Mosquet joined the Boston Consulting Group in London in 1985[2]. From 1985 to 1991, he was strategy consultant then Manager in London and Paris. He was then appointed Vice President and Director of BCG Inc, Chair of BCG’s Global Innovation Committee, then leader of BCG’s Operations Practice for Europe. He also led BCG Industries France. He was appointed Senior Partner in 1997.

In 2005, he left for the USA and opened the Detroit office, where he became Managing Director[3][4]. From 2008 to 2015, he was the head of the global Automobile Practice.

Automobile Industry[modifier | modifier le code]

In March 2009, during the subprime crisis, Xavier Mosquet headed up a team of BCG consultants which advised the “auto task force”[5] set up by President Barack Obama and the US Treasury on the successful restructuring of General Motors and Chrysler[6][7] and the forming of the Chrysler-Fiat alliance. He also advised the US Treasury and the Canadian government on GM's $24 billion stock market listing in November 2010, the largest amount ever listed on the stock market so far[8][9].

He became an advisor to President Emmanuel Macron[10][11] in 2018-2019, and, together with Patrick Pelata, presented a report[12][13][14] on the future competitiveness of France and Europe with regard to automobiles and mobility, in the context of electrification, connected cars and self-driving vehicles.

He was asked to testify in the US Congress on innovation in mobility in February 2018, and he is a regular speaker on automobiles[15] [16]and technology, and was, notably, a speaker on the subject of climate change at the 2020 CES (Consumer Electronics Show).

Awards and Distinctions[modifier | modifier le code]

Xavier Mosquet has received five awards for his consulting work, including “Turnaround Consultant of the year”[17] and “M&A Deal of the Year”. In 2012, he was named Top 25 Consultant[18] by Consulting Magazine, for the excellence of his customer service.

Publications[modifier | modifier le code]

He is the author of numerous reports, notably on future technological talent, electric and self-driving vehicles, innovation, the evolution of NAFTA (the North American Free Trade Agreement), and green employment for the US economy. He has co-authored the report “Strengthening the attractiveness and competitiveness of France with regard to tomorrow's automobiles and mobility” in 2019[19].

Xavier Mosquet is a Director of the Detroit Franco-American Chamber of Commerce[20].

In Detroit, he is a Director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and co-founder of the Detroit Public Theater. He also co-founded a new cultural center with the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Michigan Science Center[21] and eight other cultural institutions and corporate foundations.
