Désignations
Kappa Cygni (κ Cyg) est une étoile de la constellation boréale du Cygne. Elle a une magnitude apparente visuelle de 3,8[2], et est donc assez brillante pour être visible à l'œil nu. Dans la constellation, elle forme l'extrémité de l'aile gauche du Cygne[8]. Le radiant de la faible pluie de météores des Kappa cygnides est situé à environ 5° au nord de cette étoile[9].
L'examen du spectre de cette étoile correspond au type spectral G9 III[3], la classe de luminosité 'III' révélant qu'elle a consommé l'hydrogène de son cœur et gonflé pour atteindre le stade géante de son évolution stellaire. Sa luminosité varie légèrement, de seulement 0,01 à 0,02 magnitudes[10]. Le diamètre angulaire mesuré de cette étoile, après correction de l'assombrissement centre-bord, est de 2,07 ± 0,09 mas[11]. À une distance estimée de 124,2 années-lumière (38,1 parsecs) d'après les mesures de parallaxe[1], cela donne une taille physique d'environ 8–9 fois le rayon du Soleil[5]. L'enveloppe extérieure a une température effective de 4920 K[6], lui donnant la couleur jaune-orange d'une étoile voisine de la transition entre le type G et le type K de la classification[12].
