La rue Fernand-Baudin à Boissy-Saint-Léger.

Fernand Baudin, né en 1918 à Bachte-Maria-Leerne et mort en juillet 2005 à Grez-Doiceau[1], est un typographe et écrivain belge.

Biographie[modifier | modifier le code]

Baudin est élève et ensuite professeur à La Cambre[2]. Il enseigne à la Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Bouwkunst & Stedebouw à Anvers. En 1984, il reçoit le Prix exceptionnel du Comité du Grand Prix de la Société des gens de lettres pour le livre La typographie au tableau noir[2], livre qu’il a écrit entièrement à la main[3]. Pendant douze ans, il a été membre du comité directeur et ensuite vice-président de l’Association typographique internationale[4]. Il a aussi participé avec vigueur aux Rencontres internationales de Lure[3]. Son livre sans doute le plus important, L'Effet Gutenberg, pointe la question de la scission entre écriture et typographie que l'invention des caractères blocs mobile a produit, et de leur possible future réconciliation.

En 2008, le Prix du plus beau livre Wallonie-Bruxelles a choisi de se nommer Prix Fernand Baudin en son hommage[5].
