La famille Rockefeller est une famille d'industriels, de banquiers et de politiciens américains qui constitue une des plus grandes fortunes du monde dans le secteur de l'industrie pétrolière à la fin du XIXe siècle et au début du XXe siècle, notamment avec John Davison Rockefeller parfois considéré comme l'homme le plus riche de tous les temps, avec une fortune estimée à 318 milliards de dollars américains en 2012[1].

Origine

La légende veut que les Rockefeller descendent d'une famille de huguenots français, les Roquefeuille, qui habitaient un château dans le Languedoc mais ont dû fuir la France lors de la révocation de l’édit de Nantes par Louis XIV en 1685 et sont passés par les États allemands. En réalité, leurs origines allemandes sont attestées dès la fin du XVIe siècle[2].
