The Rhythm of the Night (Le rythme de la nuit, en anglais) est une chanson d'eurodance du groupe italien Corona[3],[4], premier single extrait de leur album The Rhythm of the Night (album) (en) de 1993, un des tubes internationaux emblématiques de leur carrière et des années 1990.

Histoire

Ce titre est repris adapté et remixé du titre synthpop Save Me, de 1987, du groupe hollandais Say When![5],[6], avec des nouvelles paroles sur le « thème d'une déclaration d'amour de nuit enflammée » sur une musique eurodance à base de synthétiseur, boîte à rythmes, séquenceur musical, échantillonneur de la musique électronique emblématique des boites de nuit des années 1990 « Imagine-moi brûler, et laisse-moi te tenir la main. Je ne veux pas affronter le monde en larmes. S'il te plaît, réfléchis-y à deux fois, je suis à genoux. Chante-moi cette chanson. Aucune raison de se repentir. Je sais que tu as envie de le dire. C'est le rythme de la nuit, la nuit, oh oui, le rythme de la nuit... ».

Le single et l'album ont eu un grand succès commercial international et en boites de nuit, atteignant le top 10 dans différents classements à travers le monde. Le single atteint la première place en Italie et y est resté pendant huit semaines consécutives. Il a également atteint le numéro 1 sur la carte US Billboard au début de 1995. La chanson contient un échantillon de la chanson Playing With Knives par Bizarre Inc. et Save Me par Say When![7].

Au fil des années, le succès du hit ne faiblira pas devenant le plus grand classique du phénomène Eurodance, repris ou remixé par de nombreux artistes à travers le monde entier.

The Rhythm of the Night de Corona fait partie de la bande originale du jeu Grand Theft Auto V, disponible sur la radio fictive Non Stop Pop FM.

La chanson, sur laquelle le protagoniste principal danse – interprété par Denis Lavant dans un solo improvisé[44] –, cloture le film Beau Travail (2000) de Claire Denis dans une scène célèbre et largement analysée[45],[46],[47].
