Les fluides frigorigènes, sont nommés selon une nomenclature spécifique, régie par la norme 34-1992 de l'American National Standards Institute (ANSI) et de l'American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) et approuvée par l'Union internationale de chimie pure et appliquée (IUPAC). Ce numéro se compose de la lettre R suivi d'un code de deux à cinq chiffres qui découle de sa structure moléculaire. La liste suivante répertorie les différents réfrigérants selon cette norme, leur nom IUPAC, leur formule brute et leur numéro CAS.
