Gaby Bamana (mongol cyrillique : Габи Бамана) est un docteur en anthropologie, né à Kabwe, Kasai-Occidental, en République démocratique du Congo étudiant la culture mongole et d'Asie centrale et menant des recherches comparées sur ces cultures et celles d'Afrique centrale. Il est professeur adjoint d'anthropologie et d'études religieuses à l'Art Institute (en) de Pittsburgh, dans l'état de Pennsylvanie, aux États-Unis[1] et chercheur à l'Université nationale de Mongolie[2]. Il est également affilié à l'Art Institute de Minneapolis et à l'Université du Minnesota[3]. Il parle couramment le mongol khalkha[4].
Il s'est notamment intéressé à l'histoire et aux habitudes de consommation du thé chez les Mongols. Il a écrit un ouvrage, « On the tea road, A journey into Mongolian life and culture » sur le sujet, et explique que le thé était déjà présent en Mongolie au XVIe siècle et XVIIe siècle et qu'il y transitait, sur la route de la soie[5].

Né au Congo, il part en Mongolie pour la première fois en 1995, pour ses études initiales[6]
Il a obtenu un PhD en anthropologie sociale à l'Université du pays de Galles, au Royaume-Uni[7]
Il est responsable du Centre Antoon Mostaert d'études mongoles (Antoon Mostaert à Oulan-Bator[6].
C'est un ancien missionnaire catholique, qui pense que ce n'est plus approprié à ce monde[8].
