Créé en 1970 à Alicante en Espagne franquiste par le colonel (ex-SS, membre d'ODESSA) Otto Skorzeny, comme sous élément de la WACL, le Paladin Group est un bras armée de la lutte anti-communiste. Le recrutement de mercenaires est sa principale activité. Les connexions sont nombreuses avec les pays alors fascisants, tels le Portugal "salazariste" et la Grèce des "colonels", et dans une moindre mesure, l'Italie et ses groupuscules d'extrême droite[1], participant ainsi à la "Stratégie de la tension", sous l'oeil de la CIA et de l'OTAN, à travers le réseau "Stay-behind".
Le "personnel" est composé d'anciens membres de l'ex OAS, d'ancien membres du SAC, d'anciens de la Légion étrangère, de parachutistes et d'aventuriers divers. Ils seront terroristes ou mercenaires.
Le Paladin Group est qualifié d' "étrange agence d'interim-barbouzes" par le magazine "Le Nouvel Observateur" du 23 septembre 1974, de "Fascist groups" ou de "neo-Fascist" par Henrik Krüger dans son livre "The Great Heroin Coup", de "security consultancy group" par Stuart Christie, dans son livre "Granny Made Me an Anarchist", ou de "a small international squad of commandos" par le "Lobster Magazine". Il a été commandité entre autre par Kadafi, les services secrets d'Afrique du Sud, le commando anti-israelien de Waddi Haddad[2], etc...
En 1975, Otto Skorzeny, fondateur du Paladin group décède. Son bras droit, Gerhard Hartmut von Schubert, qui a travaillé avec Goebbels pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale devient le patron.
La même année, le 20 novembre, la mort de Franco permet la restauration deux jours après de la monarchie en espagne. A partir de cette date, les groupes d'extrême droite hébergés jusqu'alors par le régime franquiste ne sont plus bienvenus; ils cherchent refuge essentiellement en amérique du sud, essentiellement dans le Chili de Pinochet ou dans l'Argentine et sa junte.
En 1976, le Paladin group devient membre du Fascist International[3]

- 1973: Revendication de l'attentat de l'aéroport de Rome Fiumicino du mois de décembre, qui a causé la mort de 32 personnes.
- 1974: prise du Cabinda pétrolier à l'Angola devenu marxiste-léniniste depuis peu, dirigé par le MPLA.
- 1974: Assassinat de membres de l'ETA
- 1976 Assassinat du General Joaquin Zenteno Anaya, ambassadeur de Bolivie en France, au mois de mai.

- Le trafic d'armes organisé par Otto Skorzeny qui possède la société World-Armco contribue au financement.
- La CIA, dans sa lutte contre les communistes, finance certaines opérations.
