Airborne Systems Ltd, part of Airborne Systems Europe is a British company, specialised in air drop systems and naval decoy[1], headquartered in Llangeinor, Bridgend County Borough, Wales, United Kingdom[2]. It has been formed after that Airborne Systems Group announced on the 2 April 2007 the restructuring of its operational centers, splitting the company in two parts, Airborne Systems North America and Airborne Systems Europe.

Airborne Systems Ltd is composed by IRVIN-GQ, Aircraft Materials Limited and Advanced Inflatable Products.

The company employs more than 250 people[3] in 3 sites, a huge complex at Llangeinor with a factory and offices, a factory at Bridgend, and an other factory at Letchworth Garden City, in England.

The history of Airborne Systems Ltd starts with IRVIN-GQ, a company formed in Buffalo, New York, United States in 1919 by Leslie Irvin, who made the first premeditated free-fall parachute jump the same year[4]. The company will provide for years parachutes for more than 30 armies around the world before that World War II began[5].

On the D-Day, the 6 June 1944, thousands of airborne troops[6] were dropped on Normandy using IRVIN-GQ parachutes[7].

The years following, IRVIN-GQ starting to produce braking parachute for the new fighter aircrafts and developed parachutes for Martin-Baker's ejection seat[8].

Since 2007, Airborne Systems Ltd is following the step and continue to provide air drop systems all around the world[9].

The activity of Airborne Systems Ltd can be split into two parts, "Aerial delivery solutions and capabilities" and "Rescue, safety and survival".

Aerial delivery solutions and capabilities[10][modifier | modifier le code]

Airborne Systems is providing delivery systems for combat supplies, humanitarian purposes, light, medium and heavy vehicles such as utility cars or boats. They are also manufacturing safety equipment for troops in aircraft, this includes ropes, quick release mechanism.

Rescue, safety and survival[10][modifier | modifier le code]

The other field of Airborne Systems Ltd is the making of aerial rescue equipment, like for example droppable kit for survivors containing temporary shelter, first aid, food and drink ...

The company is also preparing the necessary equipment for casualties, from simple rescue strop to rescue valise.

In another area, Airborne Systems Ltd is the manufacturer of a range of aircraft landing deceleration systems and safety parachute for ejection seat.

Finally, they are also manufacturing naval decoys for the navy. In September 2013, Airborne Systems Ltd is awarded by US Navy of a $41.7 million contract on five years[11], followed by the Royal New Zealand Navy on August 2014 with a £3.4 million three-year contract[12].
