La famille Townshend est une famille subsistante de la noblesse britannique, originaire du Norfolk. Elle s'est distinguée par les fonctions politiques et militaires occupées par ses membres.

Elle a été illustrée par Charles Townshend, 2^e vicomte Townshend, Leader de la Chambre des lords (1674-1738).

La famille Townshend est originaire du Norfolk.

Il s'agit d'une ancienne famille de notables qui s'est fait reconnaître dans le milieu juridique et politique. Elle sert les ducs de Norfolk qui leur permettent d'étendre leurs propriétés foncières dans l'Essex par exemple ainsi que leur fortune.

Le siège ancestral de la famille est Raynham Hall construit sous l'impulsion de Sir Roger Townshend, 1^er baronnet Raynham entre 1620 et 1640.
