Dr. Hubert Silly

[1]

Serial Entrepreneur

[modifier | modifier le code]

Although Hubert Silly is known as a writer and the founder of the MBA Center, his most spectacular achievements in the educational industry are the creation of the World MBA Tour in 1996, and the co-creation with Christophe Coutat Christophe Coutat--a former MBA Center Paris student--of ACCESS MBA in 2003.

Creation of the World MBA Tour in 1996

Current business schools and the prospective MBA students are “inundated” with invitations to MBA fairs. However, until 1996 the GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) and the AMBA were the only two organizations which organized MBA fairs in Europe. The AMBA used to organize two fairs per year in London, while the GMAC had only one fair per year in Paris and Frankfurt. The World MBA Tour started when the GMAC cancelled its fairs in 1996 and reorganized them in spring ’97, leaving schools in a big disarray. It is the reason why 'Hubert Silly' decided to create MBA Events, an organization that launched the first European tour in December 1996; the first locations of the European tour were Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, and Barcelona.

The first MBA fair was organized in Paris on 2nd December 1996 and gathered 132 MBA programs and 1,356 visitors. After this success Hubert Silly decided to open the European tour to more European cities in ‘97, including London, Prague, Budapest, and Vienna. Then, in 1998 he created an MBA Tour in Latin America (Mexico, San Paolo, Bogota, Lima, Santiago), and a tour in Asia (Singapore, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei). In 1998 he added the Middle East (Tel Aviv, Beirut, Cairo, Abu Dhabi). At the end of ‘98 MBA Events was the leading organization with fairs in Europe, Middle East, Latin America and Asia. MBA Events held its leadership until 2000.

Co-founding of ACCESS MBA in 2003

[modifier | modifier le code]

Co-founder of ACCESS MBA, in 2003 Hubert Silly tried to create a new concept that could be better targeted/oriented and more suitable to business schools. The legend claims that the 1-2-1 concept emerged after Hubert Silly and his student Christophe Coutat--who at that time was preparing an Executive MBA and was jobless--after a long roller blading race in Paris.

The first 1-2-1 fair was launched in Paris in January 2004. The concept was rapidly adopted by the business schools. Today this concept has been copied by QS, MBA25, The MBA Tour, MYBS…

ACCESS MBA now is a global company which organizes 1-2-1 events in North America, South America, Western and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Hubert Silly is now thinking about the future of business schools communication. As a teacher at VUB Brussels, he has won a prize for Prep Tutor, an open source test prep preparation platform that will revolutionize the way business schools recruit and interact with applicants. A private placement operation has been successfully launched and Prep Tutor will be fully operational in September 2015.

The creator, the founder, the owner and CEO of The MBA Center

Hubert Silly came in the Test Prep Industry when he first prepared the GMAT in 1992 and got a perfect score. As the only French person to have received a perfect score in the GMAT, he was rapidly contacted by publishers (Studyrama and Ellipses) who offered him to share his secrets. At that time the only Test Prep center in Paris was Kaplan. Thus, Hubert Silly decided to use his expertise to develop a test prep center that would offer more individualized and more comprehensive services: The MBA Center was born!

Today, individualized and comprehensive services are common place market in the test prep industry, but Hubert Silly was the first one to understand very well where the test prep would head.

Between 1996-2009 The MBA Center developed schools in the UK, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic. Today, with the competition of free online classes, The MBA Center is reassessing the model of a test Prep Center. In the future MBA will be mainly present on online market places, institutional centers and bookshops.
