General Presentation[modifier | modifier le code]

Vrak’ is a flexible contemporary jazz ensemble able to expand their musical collaborations around the band Vrak’Trio, winner of the first prize of the Barcelona Jazz Competition (Etienne Lecomte, Laurent Guitton, Oriol Roca). Vrak' develops connections between artists coming from various European countries (France, Spain, Poland, Finland, Italy and Belgium, Rumania) and creates multidisciplinary exchanges (video, recitals, contemporary dance...).

Flutist Etienne Lecomte invited tubist Laurent Guitton and drummer Oriol Roca to create a sound and a common language, with ever gathered instruments. The fruit of this work gives birth to a unique sound, without any harmonic instrument. A rhythmic flute, an almost melodic drum, a tuba halfway between lyric trumpet and rhythmic double bass… This French/Spanish trio was not named Vrak’trio by chance… "Vrak" represents both this unusual sound blending and a music fed by the diverse musical currents brought by each musician. Influenced by funk, Avant-garde jazz, music and sounds from around the world, this trio plays original compositions and personal arrangements, trying to link improvised music, jazz, contemporary currents and so called "actual" music. Vrak'trio is not a mini-brass band with horns and drums. It is not either “the piano trio”. Vrak'trio is simply a band to be discovered. Vrak'trio won Barcelona's Jazz Competition (Jazz Montjuic) in July 2007.
