Le Dorset (anciennement aussi appelé Dorsetshire), est un comté du sud-ouest de l'Angleterre bordé par la Manche. La capitale est Dorchester au sud du comté. Le Dorset s'étend sur 80 km d'est en ouest et 64 km du nord au sud. Les comtés limitrophes sont le Devon à l'ouest, le Somerset au nord-ouest, le Wiltshire au nord-est et le Hampshire à l'est. La moitié des habitants du comté habitent dans la conurbation du sud-est (villes de Bournemouth, Poole et Christchurch entre autres). Le reste du Dorest est rural. La devise du Dorset est Who's Afear'd.

Dorset is famous for its coastline, the Jurassic Coast, which features landforms such as Lulworth Cove, the Isle of Portland, Chesil Beach and Durdle Door, as well as the holiday resorts of Bournemouth, Poole, Weymouth, Swanage, and Lyme Regis. Dorset is the setting of the novels of Thomas Hardy, who was born near Dorchester. The county has a long history of human settlement and some notable archaeology, including the hill forts of Maiden Castle and Hod Hill.
