The Faymonville forge in Rocherath

The Faymonville forge in Rocherath Everything began in Rocherath, a small village in the German speaking Eastern part of Belgium. A small forge has been built there by the Faymonville family six generations ago during the 19th century. In this time, they made smaller steel works for example new shoes for the work horses that are doing difficult tasks in the local forests. Up until the beginning of the 1960s, the sale of agricultural machinery and tractor cabins was the main business from Faymonville. Why tractor cabins? It helped to protect the driver also during the very cold winters in this region. In 1962, Berthold Faymonville builds a new production unit and manufactures and sells forestry vehicles to local and regional customers. The forestry industry is a quite important sector in the densely wooded region. The longest trunks need to be transported to the different saw mills.

At the end of the 1960s, the first semitrailer is built and the production range is quickly extended, with the addition of the first lowbed semitrailer for the transport of glass (1973). In Belgium and in nearby Germany , there were many big manufacturers of flat glass elements. That’s why this field of activity had a big influence on the evolution of Faymonville. The manufacturer constructed in 1977 a special inloader that could load the huge boards in a vertical way in order to respect the height restrictions. The first extendable hydraulic steered semi-trailer followed in 1980. That gave more maneuverability to trailers when it comes to move in difficult areas of use. From 1980, Faymonville focused more and more on special transport and the production of trailers for the wood transport came to an end. It has been revived only in 2009 with the TimberMAX range.

The primary site in Rocherath became too small to cover the higher demand on MultiMAX, MegaMAX and Cie. and a new and bigger facility has been constructed in 1988 some kilometers more far in Büllingen. After the death of Berthold Faymonville, his sons Alain and Yves took over the direction of the company. And Faymonville grew in a high speed modus. In the 1990th, Faymonville developed many new products such as the VarioMAX with pendle-axles and enlarges its trailer range constantly. New production areas in Luxembourg (2003) and Poland (2006) has been opened. Several enlargements of all these production sites have been done during the years. An own service station and production center for CKD assembly has been opened in Moscow (2014). With all these capacities, Faymonville trailers can move loads with a weight from 30t up to 1,000t. Customers are working in the most different branches: construction area, , heavy haulage, chemical industry, access equipment, vertical transport, wind energy, agriculture, etc.

With the launch of the brand MAX Trailer in 2012, the Faymonville Group pushed a new concept with trailers that are composed by standardized elements.

And in 2017, the Faymonville Group acquired the Italian vehicle manufacturer Cometto and invests in new product segments to complete its product range. The origins of Cometto date back to 1954 and among the great achievements worth a special mention the “Orbiter Transportation System” built for NASA in 1983 and the Ariane project in 1990. Cometto is specialized in manufacturing of self-propelled, modular and special industrial vehicles. The main application fields are heaviest haulage tasks or special projects for the steel industry, the oil & gas field, shipbuilding companies or the aerospace sector.

The brands Faymonville, Cometto and MAX Trailer make it possible to the Faymonville Group to become a full range supplier for every special transport needs.
