Pennes number[modifier | modifier le code]

=== The Pennes number (Pn) is a dimensionless quantity used in biomodeling of human tissues, especially in hyperthermia therapy for the treatment of cancer. It expresses the relationship between the heat diffusion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffusion into a perfused tissue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tissue_(biology) and the heat flux diffusion. It is named after Harry H. Pennes

It is defined as

Pn = τDB

With

τD=(cTT)/(g*αT)

and

τB=(ρT*CpT)/CpB

where

  • τD is the time constant for diffusion
  • τB is the time constant for blood perfursion
  • cT is the radius of tumor
  • λT is the diffusion length
  • g is a geometrical factor αT is the diffusivity of tumor
  • ρT is the density of tumor
  • CpT is the specific heat capacity of tumor
  • CpB is the specific heat of blood
