Liste des municipalités du Montana

L'État américain du Montana est divisé en 129 municipalités, qui ont le statut de city ou de town^[1].

Statut[modifier | modifier le code]

Les municipalités du Montana sont régies par le Code du Montana, dans la partie 41 (Municipalities) du chapitre 1 (General Provisions) du titre 7 (Local Government). Le Code définit notamment les pouvoirs qui leur sont attribués.

Les municipalités sont divisées en quatre « classes » selon leur population : 1^re classe au-delà de 10 000 habitants, 2^e classe entre 5 000 et 10 000 habitants, 3^e classe entre 1 000 et 5 000 habitants et 4^e classe entre 300 et 1 000 habitants. Les municipalités de quatrième classe sont des towns tandis que les autres ont le statut de city^[2]. Ces classes se rapportent au moment de la création de la municipalité, peu importent les évolutions ultérieures. Des exceptions sont possibles à ce système de classes.

Deux municipalités — Anaconda et Butte — sont consolidées avec leur comté (consolidated city-county), c'est-à-dire qu'ils partagent le même gouvernement. Cependant le comté de Silver Bow, qui accueille Butte, contient également la ville de Walkerville^[1].
