iPhone Evolution[modifier | modifier le code]

The iPhone being the most prominent figure in all of Apple’s production line, it has changed a lot over the evolution of time giving us 12 generations.

The first and initial iPhone was first released in January 9, 2007 being the first apple iPhone model (1st generation) featured a quad-band GSM cellular connectivity.

Then, the iPhone 3GS was released on the 11th of July 2008 featuring 3G connectivity and Geotagging.

This sequence gradually continues an annual basis, September always being the month where the new iPhones are released.

The iPhone evolution developed until its current 12th generation being the iPhone 11 in 6 colors and a rather more premium option being the iPhone 11 pro and the iPhone Pro Max starting at 1,159 Euros at a minimum.[3]

Characteristics[modifier | modifier le code]

This year, the new iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max feature brand-new screens named “Super Retina XDR”, standing for “Extreme Dynamic Range” an evolution of the “High Dynamic Range” technology.[4]

With a size of 5.8 and 6.5 inches in diagonal for those 2 different versions, Apple uses the OLED technology claiming an 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio with 458 ppi. (2436‑by‑1125-pixel resolution for the iPhone 11 Pro and 2688‑by‑1242-pixel resolution for the iPhone 11 Pro Max.)[5]

Apple also claims 800nits, up to 1200nits when it’s on HDR mode, of screen luminosity.

Both models are claiming some Apple’s old technologies as the “True tone display”, “Wide color display (P3)” and “Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating” and keep the notch on the top of the screen.[6]

What is knew about those new screens is the removal of the “3D Touch” technology which allowed user to press the screen with more strength to reach new functionalities. This technology is replaced by the “Haptic Touch” which allows the same functionalities but instead of using the pressure it will focus on how long the finger will last on the screen at a same point, providing a haptic feedback when you’re using this technology, to signal your demand has been considered. [7]

Like the rest of the iPhone, the Super Retina XDR display is IP68 certificated under IEC standard 60529, meaning it can resist up to 4 meters depth in water within a maximum duration of 30 minutes.

Apple claims this Super Retina XDR screen as the best screen ever made on an iPhone.

A Liquid Retina Display is a type of LCD display, Like the regular Retina display found in other iPhones, the Liquid Retina Display relies on a higher level of pixels-per-inch to create a paper-like screen effect where pixels are not visible to the naked eye.
