Hellhound Records est un label discographique allemand actif entre 1988 et 1996. Il s'était autoproclamé le « le label le plus heavy de la terre ».

Histoire[modifier | modifier le code]

Fondé en 1988, Hellhound se fait principalement connaître pour avoir signé des groupes de doom metal comme Saint Vitus et The Obsessed. Le label a signé plusieurs groupes de la scène doom du Maryland dont Internal Void, Iron Man, Revelation, Wretched et Unorthodox et est rapidement devenu un label important pour ce genre^[1].

Fondé par Michael Böhl et Thomas Reiss, Hellhound est racheté par Noise Records dans les années 1990. Karl-Ulrich Walterbach (de), patron et fondateur de Noise, profite alors de la victoire judiciaire contre EMI à propos d'Helloween pour acquérir de plus petits labels^[2]. En 1995, quelques groupes de Hellhound apparaissent avec des groupes de Noise sur la compilation Pure Noise. Walterbach ferme finalement sa division doom l'année suivante. Le genre était alors très peu populaire, même si certains noms sont devenus plus importants par la suite^[3].
