Steve Lacy est un saxophoniste et un compositeur de jazz. De son vrai nom Steven Norman Lackritz, Steve Lacy est né à New York le 23 juillet 1934 et il est mort à Boston le 4 juin 2004.
Steve Lacy est parmi les plus grands joueurs de saxophone soprano avec Sidney Bechet ou John Coltrane. Il a débuté par le jazz traditionnel (le Dixieland) avant de s'engager dans le free jazz avec Cecil Taylor. C'est avec lui qu'il découvre une grande source d'inspiration : Thelonious Monk.
Il a longtemps vécu en Europe et en particulier à Paris.
