Lorinda Cherry était une informaticiene des États-Unis.
Elle a obtenu un master en informatique au Stevens Institute of Technology en 1969.[1] Elle a été embauchée par Bell Labs en 1972 comme développeuse en assembleur et y a travaillé sur le système d’exploitation Unix pendant plusieurs années.[2] She died at home in February 2022.
Biographie
Lorinda Cherry a travaillé sur des logiciels mathématiques comme BC et DC[3] ou encore le logiciel eqn avec Brian Kernighan.[4] Son travail sur la librairie libplot a servi d’inspiration aux logiciels GNU plot.[5]
Lorinda Cherry manifestait de l’intérêt pour le traitement du texte.[3] Elle a travaillé sur le dictionnaire utilisé par le correcteur d’orthographe d’Unix[6] et sur le logiciel de Bell Labsa appelé Writer's Workbench (wwb).[7]
Lorinda Cherry a participé au développement de Plan 9 from Bell Labs,[8] a co-rédigé "Typing Documents on the UNIX System: Using the –ms and –mcs Macros with Troff" en collaboration avec Mike Lesk pour la dixième édition de "the Unix Tenth Edition Manual".[9]
Elle a participé au développement d’un correcteur d’orthographe ne se basant pas sur un dictionnaire conçu par Bob Morris.[10]
Lorinda Cherry est une des trois co-auteur du brevet de AT&T "Method and system for verifying the status of 911 emergency telephone services".[11]
