Wikimag: What your first feeling when you know that you are the winner of the election ?

Wing: My first feeling was this is not possible. I was in Cologn for business reason in the week and came home at Thursday evening. I shut on my computer and saw the announcement of result. And I thought this is not possible.

Wikimag: Are you proud that for the second time is an European citizen who is the president of the Wikimedia Foundation ?

Wing: At first I am not elected the president of WikiMedia Foundation. I am just one of the ten members of the board. And I don't think that it is important where the chair of our board comes from and which nationality she or he has. WikiMedia is an international organisation and our projects are international projects. We don't make competitions between the continents or countries, we make collaborations. What is important is that she or he do a great job. Florence did a great job in the last years. So I hope that our new chair would continue this work. - Tout d'abord je ne suis pas le président de Wikimedia Foundation. Je suis juste un des dix membres du conseil. Et je ne pense pas qu'il y a une importance dans l'origine des membres du conseil. Wikimedia est une organisation internationale dont les projets sont également internationaux. Nous ne devons pas faire une compétition entre continent et pays, nous devons collaborés. Ce qui est important, c'est des faire un bon travail. Florence a fait un bon travail cet année. Donc j'espére que le nouveau conseil continura le travail.

Wikimag: "President", I know that is not the good name but i don't know, how translate Chair in French speaking. What do you want to do in first ?

Wing: At first I must read a lot of documents and mails to catch up with the work and the organisation of the foundation. Then I must prepare for the WikiMania in two weeks. I would talk with people on the mailing lists and on WikiMania to see what should be done at first and what is on schedule. I have still my goals in my mind, and these are promoting our smaller projects, encourage communications and collaboration with other institutions.

Wikimag: The Wikimania 2008 take place en Egypt from 17 to 19 july, we already know the follow edition will take place in Buenos Aires. What Wikimania bring to the participants ?

Wing: At first personal contact. I think personal contact is very important. Then a lot of very interesting presentations. Also here, it is different as to read the presentations or to hear the author talk. And third WikiMania had always boosted the local communities.
