Lomepal[modifier | modifier le code]

Lomepal, born Antoine Valentinelli on 4 December 1991, is a French rapper from the 13th arrondissement of Paris. He wrote five EP before his solo album, FLIP, released in June 2017 and already platinum record.

His stage name, Lomepal, comes from the fact his friends tought he was always ill due to his pale complexion. (from the French "L'homme pâle" the "pale man"). He also choose this nickname as a symbol. Indeed, up to now white people had trouble finding their place inside the rap world. His first nickname was Jo Pump.

In 2017, he already performed a hundred gigs and his Youtube Channel has reached 80 millions vews.

Biography[modifier | modifier le code]

Lomepal is the son of Dominique Vanlentinelli, reader and proofreader for the publishing company Gallimard, and his mother is a painter. He grew up in a backround as artistic as unstable. His mom's income is erratic: "we lived a bohemian middle-class lifestyle in a studio where a lot of exhibition took place. Sometimes paintings were selling like hot cakes and sometimes it was financially harder." His father left the house when he was young, Antoine then grew up without him but with his two sisters and his mother. He feels the effects of this absence throughout the high school period: "This is war at home, father get packing, mother hospitalised, I wasn't in the mood for school". Anymway, last year of school he stood as an independant candidate and pass the baccalaureate. The young graduated began cinema studies but dropped them to dedicate himself to rap music.

Genesis[modifier | modifier le code]

Close to the French Collective "L'Entourage", Antoine became a rapper thanks to skateboard, his first passion (the reason why "I've already broken every bones five times" he sings, "It's as simple as that: I don't remember not beeing skating one day for the past ten years".) His solo album is the result of his two passions: a flip is a basic figure in skateboard. "Before, I didn't really want to sing about skateboard because I wanted to do it right. I've been waiting for the right moment and this moment has come now." Playing with the diverse meanings of the word flip, Lomepal appears as women on the sleeve.

He also admits having an immoderate liking for travel. He visited Canada, Australia, Indonesia, Greece, Portugal, Morocco, the United States and Italy (where he record his songs).

In 2011, he released a first EP called "20 mesures". A second one in 2013 "Le singe fume sa cigarette" with the composer Hologram and the Belgian rapper Caballero, and an EP called Cette foutue perle. He goes on with the EP Seigneur in 2014 and releases Majesté the year after. ODSL, the EP created in collaboration with S-Two was released in 2016.

Flip (2017)[modifier | modifier le code]

In 30 June 2017, Lomepal released his first studio solo album, FLIP. The sleeve shows the artist dressed as a woman, very unusual in the machist hip-hip world. The album get known through to the hit "Yeux disent" ("eyes say" in English). Thanks to favourable response, FLIP is certifed platinum record in February 2018.

Style and influences[modifier | modifier le code]

Inspirations[modifier | modifier le code]

Lonelyness is his main source of inspiration but he also sings about travelling and leaving everything (neigbourhood, society...), themes closely related to lonelyness.

He composes his instrumental songs with no vocals not to be distracted, then he can focus on rhymes anf flows. He writes lyrics on his smartphone as soon as an idea crosses his mind, anytime, anywhere, more often in public transports as he doesn't have anything to do; and as he is most of the time in public transports, he writes a lot. He says himself "Most of my texts are written on the go and resewn together here and there".
