Spanish map 1541

In the las few weeks I have seen over 100 old Maps dealing with Canada. I remember clearly that I saw a Spanish map of 1541 from a spanish Museum somewhere. I remember also there was a specific inscription in Old Spanish just next to the Settlement called Canada: "Many Frenchmen died here of Hunger during winter. Yesterday I could not find it. The new reference you added brings us to a text but I cannot see how to access the map. Do you have this ling^ Do you know in wchich Museum this map is dispalyed^

I found the map on Spanish Wikipedia. No author is mentionned, this carta is kept by Real Academia de la Historia.

As promised I added a paragraph dealing with the spanish 1541 map kept in Real Academia de la Historia. I put nex to the French cartographers paragraph. The point is to show that cartographers contributed to diffusion of the name Canada throughout Europe and the world.

I tried to find your article, but I was not able. In my French books there are some mentions of Cristobal de Haro. I understand he kept King of Spain informed on France's North American projects. It was spying, XVyh Century style!

Descubierto le encargo el rrey fuese con aquella armada en este medio tiempo rroverbol/ procuro con el rrey como le diese cargo de capitan general en la armada y tierra de Canada y de lo que adelante se descubriese y titulo tubiendo rrespecto a lo mucho que abia gastado en el armada allende lo que el rrey le dava. Abia dado para ella y abia bendido mucha hazienda y empeñado mas de ochomill francos que tenia de rrenta y se dezia el rrey le abia dado titulo de rrey de canada y a su muger llamaban en aquel lugar rreyna de canada (Archivo General de Indias, Indiferente General 1092, N. 267. fol. 1v).
