Tsutomu Shimomura est un expert américain, d'origine japonaise, en sécurité informatique, célèbre pour avoir, avec le journaliste John Markoff, aidé le FBI à arrêter le hacker Kevin Mitnick. Markoff et Shimomura ont plus tard raconté cette histoire dans le livre Cybertraque. Ce livre a été porté par la suite au grand écran en 2000 dans un film du même nom. Dans ce film, le véritable Tsutomu Shimomura fait une brève apparition. Il est l'un des fils de Osamu Shimomura, récipiendaire du prix Nobel de chimie en 2008.
