DescriptionGrowing as a community in rural DR Congo (7609967072).jpg
Members of the community farming group at work in their community fields near the town of Masi Manimba, Bandundu Province, DRC. Since receiving some training on healthier eating and nutrition from the NGO Action Against Hunger, the community organised itself into voluntary groups and came up with the idea for a co-operative farm. It now produces enough food to feed the 35 families in the community whilst still leaving them enough to sell at the local market.
Background
UK aid has supported the government of DRC and aid agencies including Action Against Hunger to provide emergency nutrition response programmes across DRC in 2010 and 2011. In some areas, the communities have taken some of the ideas that Action Against Hunger brought to them, and organised themselves to tackle malnutrition from the ground up - by forming their own co-operative farms and self-support groups.
