BAZIGAGA (film, 2022)[modifier | modifier le code]

Bazigaga is a French-British short drama directed by Jo (Joseline) Ingabire Moys and produced by FULLDAWA FILMS[1], CHEZ KIBIBI and WHITE BOAT PICTURES[2]. The film is based on historical events that took place during the 1994 genocide on the Tutsis in Rwanda.

The short film has been competing in various film festivals since early 2022, including the Festival du Film Francophone d'Angoulême[3], Flickers' Rhode Island Festival[4], the Saint Louis International Film Festival[5], the Leeds International Film Festival[6], Anatolia International Film Festival[7], Iconic Images Film Festival[8]. It has won several awards : Best Actress for Eliane Umuhire and the RTBF Prize at the Festival du Film Francophone de Namur [9]2022, as well as Best Producer at the BIG SYN International Film Festival[10].

Bazigaga's character is inspired by Zula Karuhimbi, a Rwandan woman considered by many as a sorceress. She saved over a hundred Tutsi lives during the massacre.

The short film is based on the director's life and testimony as a survivor of the genocide.

This is the story of Bazigaga, a heroically brave woman who saved hundreds of lives during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. As a pastor and his daughter take shelter in the hut of the feared witchdoctor, all three must reconcile their differences if they are to survive the militia's siege.
