I am a French researcher at the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) and a specialist of environmental mineralogy and biogeochemistry.
My main contributions in mineralogy are on the structure and surface reactivity of defective solids, including phyllosilicates, iron oxyhydroxides, and manganese oxides, which are key players in controlling the fate of metal contaminants in natural systems. In the mid-90s, I pioneered the application of synchrotron radiation techniques to determination of the speciation of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, As, Se, Pb, Hg, ...) in soils, sediments, and plants in collaboration with researchers at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble (FAME beamline[1]) and the Advanced Light Source of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (X-ray microprobe 10.3.2[2]).
These investigations advance our knowledge of the chemical and structural forms of toxic elements in the environment, which is critical for Earth sustainability issues of the future. On the applied side, they help in formulating effective metal containment biogeo-technologies, as in phytoremediation.
