Description
English: The British Grid System- the work of the Central Electricity Board in Wartime, c March 1945
A controller at work in the central electricity control room. On the left is a system diagram showing the electrical system for the whole of Great Britain, ranging from Scotland at the top, through 'NWE' (North West England), 'CE' (Central England) and 'SWE' (South West England), amongst others. According to the original caption, this control room is well below ground, so safe from any enemy attacks and it is from here that "power can be switched from less heavily loaded areas to vital war industries".
This photograph was scanned and released by the Imperial War Museum on the IWM Non Commercial Licence. The image was catalogued by the IWM as created for the Ministry of Information, which was dissolved in 1946. Consequently the image and faithful reproductions are considered Crown Copyright, now expired as the photograph was taken prior to 1 June 1957.

il s'agit d'une photographie créée par le Gouvernement du Royaume-Uni, prise avant le 1er juin 1957 ;
il s'agit d'une photographie ou d'une gravure créée par le Gouvernement du Royaume-Uni et publiée à titre commercial avant 1974 ;
