DescriptionSpace Shuttle Main Engine Internals - Flickr - FastLizard4.jpg
English: This is a shot of the internals of a space shuttle main engine (SSME). Visible here are many components (see the Wikipedia article linked above), including the Main Engine Computer (MEC) containing two doubly-redundant Motorola 68000 microprocessors (very simple microprocessors, much simpler than what's in your computer, but much less likely to have problems). Each SSME has its own attached MEC, greatly simplifying the wiring of the shuttle (each space shuttle has three SSMEs).
To see a large view of the space shuttle's tail, see here.
This photo of the Space Shuttle Endeavour exhibit was taken at the California Science Center, the "retirement home" (if you will) of this particular shuttle. If you live in the area, go check it out; entrance is only $2!
