| Notes | "Folded and mounted in a binding in red percaline, with the first board decorated with the title and a silver decor showing the Eiffel Tower and an airship. This is a beautiful map of Paris, drawn by Robelin in Montrouge, and lithographed in color. This tourist map is decorated with a multitude of vignettes showing emblematic monuments of Paris such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe or Notre-Dame, and extends beyond the limits of the town and the Thiers wall, to show the surrounding towns, also represented by vignettes. The map also shows the Metropolitan network. The map is not dated, but with the lines and stations shown, it can be precisely dated from 1911. Indeed, it shows the Le Peletier station, opened in June 1911, but not the Porte de Clichy station, opened in January 1912. On the back of this map is a map of the surroundings of Paris (about 80 kilometers around), also decorated with the most remarkable historical monuments such as the Château de Fontainebleau, the cathedral of Soissons, the castle of Diane de Poitiers in Anet, the Château de Chantilly, the Temple of Philosophy in Ermenonville, the Caesar Tower in Provins, or the Donjon of Vincennes. The airship accompanying the Eiffel Tower on the cover illustrates the first night flight of an airship over Paris. On July 5, 1911, the aerostat baptized Astra-Torrès left its hangar in Issy-les-Moulineaux at 8:40 p.m., to fly over Paris for a little less than an hour. Excellent copy, in a nice binding with silver decoration showing the Eiffel Tower and an airship, with prices in francs and shillings. |
