Notes Bound in Paris, or possibly in Louvain, by Jehan Norvi(n)s, c. 1540. Panel stamped by JEAN NORVIS. Traces of 2 pairs of ties. [Macchi states; 1524-1542, France, binding decorated with acorn panel stamp, bound by Jean Norvins (inscription JEHANS NORINS OR NORVIS). It is the only panel stamp attributed to this binder. 11 examples known on scientific texts (only two printed in Paris). Belgium: Anvers: Plantin Museum (1); Bruxelles, Royal Library (2) Denmark: Royal Library (1); France: Bergues-Saint-Winoc, Municipal Library (1); Paris, Mazarine Library (1); National Library (1); Neatherlands: Utrecht, University Library (2); Bibliography: L. Gruel, Manuel historique, I, p. 137 (E. Ph. Goldschmidt, Gothic and Renaissance bookbindings, n. 131), p. 137. Another panel stamp of this binder represents Betshabée provided with S. Michael signed IN and covers only books with text printed by Pierre Vidoue for Conrad Resch in 1523 (D. Gid- M.-P. Laffitte, Les reliures à plaques françaises, p. 143-145, n. 95). According to Georges Colin, the oldest panel stamps of this type are French (G. Colin, Les plus anciennes plaques, p. 49-53). John Rylands library has an example on a 1541 New Testament, R76533.]
