cape or cloak - Italian Alpini regiment (WW1 - WW2) During WW1 Italy's Alpini Battalions guarded and defended the passes in the Alps. Some 40,000 men were deployed and casualties numbered approximately 12,000. Part of uniform, which is probably that received by the Museum in 1920 from the Stabiliments di Reserva Vestiario of Turin. See Museum Board Records, minutes 28.5.1920, where it is recorded that the curator announced that two boxes of surplus uniforms had been received from the Stabiliments di Reserva Vestiario of Turin as a gift to the Auckland War Museum. It was agreed to vote cordial thanks of the Museum to the donors. Note- Elsewhere suggestion that period is WW2.
