DescriptionChanonry Point and Fort George - 51500339338.jpg
English: This narrow part of the Moray Firth, near Inverness, Scotland has conflicting streams of water at certain states of the tide, creating turbulence.
Here we are looking Northwards towards the area known as the Black Isle, and beyond get a glimpse of the Cromarty Firth where oil rigs are laid up and cruise ships visit. A red oil rig can just be seen.
The isthmus of land on the left foreground is Chanonry Point, with the town of Fortrose behind. On the right (indistinct) is the Army fortress of Fort George, which dates from 1769 and still has a garrison today.
It's in this area that a school of dolphins can often be seen, and they have become a popular tourist attraction.
