Description20150706 - 18 - Sudbury, Ont. - University of Sudbury welcome sign.jpg
English: As seen in July 2015, a sign alongside Manitou Road welcomes visitors trilingually (in English, French, and Ojibwe) to the campus of the University of Sudbury in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Founded by the Jesuits in 1913 as the Collège du Sacré-Cœur, Northern Ontario's first institute of higher education, the University of Sudbury became an affiliate of the adjacent Laurentian University in 1960, and remained so at the time this photograph was taken. However, in the midst of Laurentian's well-publicized early-2020s financial crisis, the University of Sudbury once again became an independent entity and today, with a student population of just under 5,000, is Ontario's largest fully Francophone college or university. Undergraduate degrees are offered in fields such as journalism, theology, philosophy, ethnology, and Indigenous studies.
