English: The Flying Ambulances were developed by French battlefield surgeon Dominque-Jean Larrey to rapidly transport the wounded from the battlefield to field hospitals located two miles to the rear of the main battlelines. Prior to their creation, the wounded would not be collected until the end of the battle or they would have to limp back to the base camp and where they would be attended to according to their social rank (aristocratic officers were treated first, with common soldiers treated last) rather than the seriousness of their wounds leaving the most critically injured to die on the field.

Part of the engraved plate series titled 'Evolution des Voitures à travers les âges' (An Evolution of Cars throughout the Ages) edited the French Company of Graphic Arts, I can't find more info on when it was published but the display states it was made between the 19th-20th centuries. Whats more is I can't find Mon. LaJoux's biography. He published pictures of french soldiers in the Great War and circa WWII, so I'm saying 1920 because the last of his art would determine that he was continuing to draw up at least until the inter-war period.
