Wale Ojo, né le , est un acteur britannique nigérian.

Biographie

Il commence sa carrière en tant qu'acteur enfant à la télévision. Par la suite, il poursuit en jouant des rôles au Royaume-Uni et au Nigéria[1],[2]. Il s'est fait connaître en 1995 pour son rôle dans The Hard Case . Il a remporté le prix du meilleur acteur aux Prix du divertissement nigérian 2012 (en) pour ce rôle principal dans Phone Swap (en)[3],[4] et a joué dans plusieurs films depuis.

Jeunesse et éducation

Sa carrière d'acteur professionnel débute très tôt. À 8 ans, il a travaillé avec Akin Lewis, qui jouait un barbier dans la série télévisée "Why Worry" diffusée sur Western Nigeria Television (en) dans les années 1980. Il a déménagé en Angleterre avec sa famille à l'âge de 12 ans, où il a aussi poursuivi ses études universitaires[5].

Ojo attribue sa carrière aux influences de sa mère, qui était actrice et soutenait sa carrière[6], Wale Ogunyemi (en), Tunji Oyelana (en), le dramaturge Wole Soyinka et Zulu Sofola[5].

Nouveau cinéma nigérian

Ojo a établi New Nigeria Cinema, qui vise à rehausser le niveau des productions cinématographiques nigérianes. New Nigeria Cinema a organisé une projection et des conférences au British Film Institute de Londres en 2010[7],[8].
