Des stands pendant l'édition 2011 du festival

Trolls & Légendes is a fantasy festival held every 2 years at Mons Expo in Mons Belgium. Created in 2005 by the Anthêsis association, Trolls & Légendes is one of the first festivals of its kind in the French speaking world, covering all aspects of Fantasy, addressing both the enthusiasts and family audiences. The event features a book fair, a game convention and fantasy craftsmanship with the presence of authors, illustrators, publishers, designers, book signings, demonstrations and tournaments of card games and role-playing. It is also a family event with exhibitions, screenings and animations throughout the festival, bands, comedians, storytellers, magicians, costume contest for adults and children and the hunting of trolls eggs.

Chronology[modifier | modifier le code]

The creation of the Trolls et Légendes festival in Mons was made possible in 2005 by the ASBL anthesis. Richard Ely explained the project's genesis with the hype around the Lord of the rings^[1] in an interview with Soir. This festival and its success served as a trigger for the development of other fairy and fantasy festivals in Belgium and France, for example: Printemps des Légendes in Monthermé, Cidre et Dragon (in Normandie) or les Féeries du Bocage in Voulx.

2005 Edition[modifier | modifier le code]

The festival was held for the first time in June 2005 around the theme of Lord of the Rings. John Howe, artistic director of the trilogy by Peter Jackson, was the guest of honor. The concerts brought together the following groups Korrigan, Naheulbeuk, Madelgaire, Ange, Keltia, Elane, Omnia and Corvus Corax.

2007 Edition[modifier | modifier le code]

The second edition of the festival took place on 7 and 8 of April 2007. More than 13,000 visitors gathered around the theme of magicians and sorcerers. Illustrator and art director of the film The Lord of the Rings, oscar winner for the movie The Return of the King, Alan Lee honored the festival with his presence. Concerts: Corvus Corax, Faun, Les Légendes du Temps, Omnia, Soysoy, The Moon and the Nightspirit, et Urban Trad, Naheulband.

The festival hosted the 2nd Fantasy convention and a festival of fantasy short films, cartoons projections. Guest: David Sterne

En avril 2009, pour sa troisième édition, Trolls & Légendes a accueilli plus de 16000 visiteurs, dont 6700 pour les concerts.^{[réf. nécessaire]}

Le festival était cette fois plongé dans l’univers de la Féerie. Les invités d'honneur de cette édition étaient Brian & Wendy Froud. Les concerts^[2] ont reçu Cécile Corbel, Ceilì Moss, Daemonia Nymphe, Louisa John-Krol, Naheulband, Belyscendre, Maigh Tuireadh, Nehl Aëlin, Omnia, Qntal, Woodland.

En avril 2011, l'édition du festival était placée sous le thème des Dragons. Pas moins de 18.500 festivaliers (dont 7500 pour les concerts) se sont déplacés. L'invitée d'honneur de cette édition était Robin Hobb.

La cinquième édition du festival s'est tenue les 29, 30 et 31 mars 2013. 22 500 visiteurs se sont déplacés pour festoyer sous le thème des Semi-hommes^{[réf. nécessaire]}. Les invités d'honneur étaient Ted Nasmith et David T. Wenzel, qui ont tous deux illustré, entre autres, le Hobbit, de JRR Tolkien...
