Dr. Khadidjeh Kechavarz, born Mohammadabadi, was the first woman lawyer in Iran and first woman member of the Iranian Bar Association.

Biography
[modifier | modifier le code]Khadidjeh Kechavarz, born Mohammadabadi, was born on April 18th 1907 In Yazd, Iran.
Upon completion of her high school degree, she traveled to France and enrolled at the Faculty of Law of the University of Toulouse, France.
During her stay in France, she married Dr. Freydoon Kechavarz, who at that time was studying Medicine in Paris, France.
Upon her return to Iran, Dr. Kh. Kechavarz became a member of the Iranian Bar Association and started her law practice, mostly defending children and the poor. She also became active in women rights movement.
She became disillusioned because of rampant corruption in the government and eventually retired from professional and public life.
Later life
[modifier | modifier le code]After the death of her oldest son, Rostam, in 1950, she joined her husband in USSR in 1952, where he was a political refugee. In 1956, she and two of her children moved to Paris, France. The family was reunited in Switzerland in 1960.
Dr. Kh. Kechavarz died on April 17th 1971. She is buried in the Behesht-e Zahra cimetery in Teheran, Iran.
