The Chain Gang of 1974 est le projet d'indietronica du musicien et DJ américain, Kamtin Mohager. "The Chain Gang of 1974" fait aussi référence à Kamtin Mohager lui-même. Mohager a grandi à Hawaii et au Colorado, et vit actuellement à Los Angeles, en Californie.

Histoire Personnel

Né à San Jose, en Californie et grandi à Hawaii puis à Denver, Kamtin Mohager a rejoint 3OH!3 comme bassiste pour leur tournée de 2008 à 2010. 

Il sort lui-même "Fantastic Nostalgic: The Early Recordings" en 2010. Cette année est sorti également son premier album, "White Guts". 

Mohager est parti à Los Angeles pour enregistrer son album suivant, "Wayward Fire", lequel est sorti par Modern Art Records en 2011.

Au début des années 2010, Mohager a sorti son EP dans une version digitale intitulé 'Fantastic Nostalgic: The Early Recordings". Kamtin Mohager décrit son son de début comme "partout, à partir d'une ballade de piano à des chassons qui sonnent comme Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Primal Scream, ou Justice." Zachary Houle de PopMatters a appelé l'album "un hommage aux année 80, en particulier les bandes originales de films de John Hughes, et c'est, un mot, du plaisir." 

Mohager reçoit le reconnaissance mondiale quand sa chanson "Sleepwalking" est sélectionné dans le trailer officiel pour Grand Theft Auto V.

En 2012, Mohager a signé to Warner Music Group for the release of his third full-length album, Daydream Forever. The album is described as a continuation of the synth-heavy, reverb-laden dreams that made Mohager’s debut album, Wayward Fire, an immediate favorite of the retro set. Production is thicker here, with more elastic bounces. If that means it feels like you’ve stepped into an '80s night at the local bar (as one reviewer humorously put it), then Mohager has clearly succeeded. This is the guy who wasn’t moved to make music until hearing Tears for Fears in the movie Real Genius, says the legend; when tracks such as “Ordinary Fools,” “You,” “Moksha," and “Death Metal Punk” hit you firmly across the ears with their indelible '80s-styled hooks, everything is working according to his lo-hi-tech plans. Elements of Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, OMD, and M83 coalesce into a party of their own. “Plum” ends things on a slightly darker Prefab Sprout–style tone.

En été 2014, Kamtin Mohager s'est associé avec le DJ et producteur Dillon Francis, ainsi que Sultan & Ned Shepard pour la sortie de "When We Were Young."

Au début de l'année 2015, Mohager a lancé un projet collaboratif avec Marshall Gallagher (Swing Hero), nommé Teenage Wrist. Le premier single du groupe "Afterglow" des éloges de My Chemical Romance.
