Emirati photographs are currently in the public domain in the United States if their protection period had expired in the United Arab Emirates prior to the U.S. date of restoration (10 April 1996).

Emirati photographs published between 1986 and 1992 (i.e. those that were still copyrighted on the U.S. date of restoration but whose protection period expired before the entry into force of the new Emirati copyright law) are currently in the public domain in the United Arab Emirates but not in the United States. Such photographs are no longer accepted at Commons.
