A notice for the collective work will not serve as the notice for advertisements inserted on behalf of persons other than the copyright owner of the collective work. These advertisements should each bear a separate notice in the name of the copyright owner of the advertisement.

Note that Columbia Records (CBS) did not put a copyright notice on their advert (e.g. © 1973 CBS Inc.). In addition, this photo is uncropped and unaltered. The lack of a copyright notice is true in some various Columbia trade advertisements that were carried out prior to 1974. After 1974, Columbia/CBS began adding the copyright notice in their subsequent advertisements. The only notice in the photo is a registered trademark notice of the author, Columbia Records (e.g. ..MARCAS REG...) on their advertisement.

  • This advertisement was published pre-1978. The inclusion of a copyright notice was mandated until 1989; the author failed to include proper copyright notice, so therefore in the public domain in the United States.
