Notifications by bot[modifier le code]

Hello Max

I've received two notifications from your bot. Happy to see it working!

I don't know if it was done purposefully. If so, receiving notifications from each message your bot is going to distribute may be a bit noisy. I don't know how Loveless handles it to avoid a mention at each distribution. Maybe that's done by not using a timestamp signature but by adding the timestamp as a string of characters. How mentions are distributes is explained in the manual.

Thanks @Trizek for reporting this. You are right, the signing user shouldn't get a notification every time they are mentioned. I believe I copied the code correctly from @Darkoneko's implementation, so I have figure out why this is still sending notifications—maybe it's because mentions user with an active botflag don't trigger notification? Otherwise, do you know a template that works like en:Template:Noping in frwiki? Wikidata doesn't show an equivalent Maximilianklein(CS) (discuter) 14 octobre 2019 à 17:52 (CEST)[répondre]
I think that Darko would be a better helper than I am. I don't think it is the botflag, since Utilisateur:Loveless bienvenue has it.
Template:Noping is not implemented on fr. Maybe we should.

If you've started the test already, should I stop my bot then ?
For the mention thing, I don't really know how those work. If you use the same code as me (that is, adding the name throught a template's parameter, and then template is then subst:'ed), there's no reason for them to show ... ? - DarkoNeko (mreow?) 15 octobre 2019 à 01:02 (CEST)[répondre]
Thanks @Darkoneko. Please leave Loveless running for now, this is just a testing phase (we are re-implementing the bot in mwapi). We will probably make the switch over to our bot implementation mid-November. The code you gave me made this edit
{{subst:Utilisateur:Darkoneko/Message automatique de bienvenue|%s}} [[user:%s|%s]] ([[user talk:%s|discuter]])
Which explicitly takes the signature out of the template. mw:Help:Notifications/Mention#How_to_mention_another_editor_and_trigger_a_notification says that all links to a user page will trigger the notification, except if it's in a Template. I can easily put the signature back into the template to avoid notifying the signing-users, it just seems like it was explicitly programmed the other way. Anyway I'm happy to just "make it work correctly" now, however community wants it. Thanks Maximilianklein(CS) (discuter) 15 octobre 2019 à 02:49 (CEST)[répondre]

No more welcome messages?[modifier le code]

Hi there,

I hope this is on the right page, let me know if I should write to Darkoneko.

I am a Community Liaison for Wikimedia CH, and I get to help train quite a lot of beginners this way. I noticed there are no welcome messages on beginners I have been help train since the beginning of this year. Is this normal?

The welcome messages were quite appreciated by the beginners, so I would love to see them come back, but I understand if the program is over, I would just like to make sure this is not due to some issue.--Flor WMCH (discuter) 12 mars 2020 à 14:40 (CET)[répondre]

Hi @Flor WMCH - Thank you for making sure that FR newcomers are being welcomed! You are correct in noticing that some currently are not; we (CivilServant) are collaborating with the Aide & Accueil project (@Binabik) on French Wikipedia to study the welcome message and during that time some newcomers will continue to not receive the message. You can read a little more about the study here: Projet:Aide et accueil/Évaluation du message d'accueil. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns - and thanks again! --Juliakamin(cs) (discuter) 12 mars 2020 à 20:29 (CET)[répondre]

Hello,

As discussed in Sujet:Vmaqbgmxlade54kx, we need to change the format of the page that contains the list of signatures used by your bot Loveless bienvenue (d · c · b), so that it can also be used by a new MediaWiki extension. Could you please tell us if you would be able to modify your bot to support this?

Thanks,
