Il est marié depuis 1997 avec Felicity Huffman qui interprète Lynette Scavo dans la série télévisée Desperate Housewives. Ils ont eu ensemble deux filles prénommées Sophia et Georgia Grace. Il obtient son étoile sur la célèbre Walk of Fame à Los Angeles le 8 mars 2012.
