Michel Petrucciani (né le 28 décembre 1962 à Orange et décédé le 6 janvier 1999 à Manhattan (New York)), était un pianiste de jazz français.

[modifier] Éléments de biographie

Atteint d’ostéogenèse imparfaite (osteogenesis imperfecta), il surmonta son handicap pour devenir un grand pianiste de jazz. Également compositeur, il avait une préférence pour les thèmes brésiliens, souvent présents dans ses disques.

Il repose au cimetière du Père-Lachaise à Paris (division 11), à quelques mètres de Frédéric Chopin, juste en face de Pierre Desproges.

Son père, Antoine Petrucciani, dit « Tony », guitariste de jazz renommé, a été son professeur de musique et a collaboré par la suite à plusieurs de ses albums. Raymonde Jacquemart et lui apprennent le piano à son fils, et il enseignera la guitare à Marianne James. Ses deux frères sont également musiciens. Louis est contrebassiste et Philippe, guitariste. Tony Petrucciani vivait à Toulon dans le Var. Il a, durant de nombreuses années, dispensé des cours de guitare jazz dans les écoles municipales de musique de Carnoules, Solliès-Toucas et la Londe-les-Maures.

Michel Petrucciani a vécu pendant longtemps à Montélimar où un auditorium porte son nom.
