John W. Dunn est un scénariste et animateur de dessins animés écosssais né le 25 février 1919 à Coatbridge (Royaume-Uni), décédé le 17 janvier 1983 à San Fernando (Californie).

Il commença sa carrière aux studios d'animations Disney, ou sa première histoire, Man in space, reçut une nomination aux oscars. Il se rendit en 1960 chez Warner Bros. Cartoons. Là bas il débuta avec The Pied Piper of Guadalupe qui fut également nominé aux oscars. Il remplaça les plus grands scénaristes de warner bros Michael Maltese et Warren Foster quand ceux ci décidèrent de travailler pour les studios Hanna-Barbera. Après la fermeture des studios warner en 1963, Dunn rejoignit DePatie-Freleng Enterprises. En 1964, il écrivit l'histoire de la vie en rose le premier court-métrage qui vit l'apparition de la célèbre panthère rose. Il remporta l'Oscar du meilleur court-métrage d'animation de l'année. Beaucoup de dessins animés de chez deptie-freleng réutilisent des histoires provenant de chez warner bros. Dunn fut un scénariste prolifique durant les 19 années qui suivirent et il travailla à l'animation de l'araignée en 1967. Il mourut à san fernando en californie d'une crise cardiaque.
